i sincerely apologize for talking on the behalf of other people, who actually deal with discrimination more than i do, but i couldn’t let this shit fucking slide without calling this disgusting person out.
she’s a gay fetishizer, writes stuff with horrible stereotypes of gay men and basically likes to use them as barbie dolls to ship and write sex with. and get this: she’s bisexual. she literally only cares about “LGBT” rights and activism, is anti-feminism, and doesn’t believe racism is a big deal anymore or even that prevalent anymore because “racism is illegal in the UK!!!!!” and she thinks that woman HAVE all their rights and they don’t need to fight for anything more.
so we’re all talking about minority representation. and she says she doesn’t care if she’s misrepresented. and basically goes onto attribute that to all other minorities and that they should feel the same.
Me: yeah but you can inaccurately portray a minority without being necessarily/blatantly offensive or violent/angry
Her: Of course you can Xig
Me: so why does it only matter then if it’s promoting violence/anger?
Her: I guess I see it more in lesbian fiction than I do gay fiction, but that’s perhaps just because I see it more when it’s my own gender? Not sure
Me: if it matters then it should matter with everything else too
Her: Because who cares if it’s inaccurately representing a minority?
Me: minorities do omfg
Me: but they don’t count do they
Her: I fall under the ‘minority’ class, I couldn’t gaf and I don’t think people should either
look at this stunning piece of shit.
so she messaged me on aim to “explain herself better” because she said, apparently, that’s not what she meant.
Her 5:40 pm
(5:40:30 PM): Basically, I do not care if the particular minority that I am a part of is misrepresented in literature unless the literature calls for violence/anger towards my particular minority. I think the world would spin a lot smoother if other minorities thought the same way. I am not saying they DO, or that EVERYONE SHOULD AGREE WITH ME, I’m just saying that’s how I think of it.
Me 5:41 pm
(5:41:50 PM): yeahhh you would probably see it a lot different if you were like.. yknow… black or muslim or disabled, a minority that’s way more systematically disenfranchised than being a white woman
Her 5:41 pm
(5:41:58 PM): … I’m gay honey
(5:42:06 PM): That’s what I was talking about
(5:42:09 PM): Not being female
Me 5:42 pm
(5:42:13 PM): i’m well aware
Her 5:43 pm
(5:43:01 PM): And fine, maybe I would think differently if I was part of a different minority
(5:43:33 PM): But maybe not :)
Me 5:46 pm
(5:46:50 PM): not that you care about females anyway
(5:46:51 PM): look i’m not really in the mood to try to be nice about this or educate you on how to be less ignorant and being so full of white privilege that it’s bursting out of your ears
(5:47:01 PM): so i’m just going to let this go
(5:47:12 PM): because it is not worth wasting my time
Her 5:47 pm
(5:47:18 PM): -shakes head- Okay dear, you think of it that way
i’m white. i know it isn’t my place to call out white people on our imperialistic mindsets on how the rest of the world works and how we fit into the world and what our role is. but i cannot stand by and see this shit fly.
